What Happens When A Nation Turns Back To God?
Although we are often quick to condemn Israel for turning its back on God, will the generations to come condemn us all the more because we had their example of turning away (and the result) and turning back (and the result) and we failed to learn anything?
Inauguration Day is an historic event in our country. Some are proclaiming this to be the most historical inauguration day in our country’s history. While everyone does not agree with this statement, those who do are calling this a great day of change. A day of hope. A day of renewal.
While we can certainly hope for change, real change is not going to come through a new president. No man or woman can rescue our country from its plight. While much of the world searches for answers, Christians often follow along blindly - the answer in their pocket!
What does Scripture say? “If My people, who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chron 7:14)
So the question is: Are we, as individual Christians:
Humbling ourselves before God?
Praying?
Seeking His face?
Turning from our wicked ways?
What could happen, if we, as Christians within our nation, returned to our God?
“Lord, You have been favorable to Your land; . . .brought back the captivity. . .forgiven the iniquity of Your people. . .covered their sin. . .taken away Your wrath. . .[spoke] peace. . .[brought Your] salvation near. . .[caused] glory [to] dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met together, righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is good. . .Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway.” (Psalm 85)
Sounds like the ‘peace’ and ‘change’ everyone is seeking. Should we be doing something about the ‘state of our nation’?
Dear Lord, give us a humble heart - a heart which seeks Your face. Help us turn from our wicked ways - to see our wicked ways! Forgive us, dear Lord. Forgive and heal our land.
